Use of tenses

The simple past is systematically used to report the results.

Le simple past est utilisé de façon systématique pour présenter les résultats.

• Ex. Twenty-four patients underwent total gastrectomy and 30 had subtotal gastrectomy. Duration of follow-up in patients who had total gastrectomy was shorter than that in patients who had subtotal gastrectomy, 41 versus 59 months.

The simple present is used to explain that the results are presented in tables, charts, figures and graphs.

Le simple present est utilisé pour expliquer que les résultats sont présentés dans les tableaux, diagrammes, figures et autres graphiques.

• Ex. The characteristics of the patients are shown in Table 1.
