Dear Pr Andrews,
Please find attached our manuscript entitled “Exacerbation of oxidative stress in diabetic patients during cardiopulmonary bypass”. Extracorporeal circulation of blood through plastic tubing activates several processes including systemic inflammation and oxidative stress. These phenomena are thought to contribute to the neurological and cardiovascular side effects observed in patients under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). In diabetic patients, a direct relationship has been established between hyperglycemia and both morbidity and mortality. This paper explores the influence of hyperglycemia on inflammation and oxidative stress in patients under CPB during cardiac surgery and we have shown that there is an increase in oxidative stress during CPB in patients with type 2 diabetes.
We have chosen to submit our article to “The North American Journal of Cardiology” because the journal has already published articles on closely-related topics.
This manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under review with another journal, and has been written in accordance with the journal’s Instructions to Authors.
Each of the authors has read and concurs with the content of the final manuscript. All of the authors have made substantial contributions to the following: the design of the study, the acquisition of data, the analysis and interpretation of data; the drafting and the critical revision of the article for important intellectual content. All have approved the version to be submitted.
Regarding the option of nominating up to four reviewers, our two nominees are:

We are sure you are familiar with the work of Pr Rocket, but the work of Pr Taillepierre is less well known. He is a highly experienced cardiovascular surgeon who has already published several articles concerning oxidative stress in CPB. These referees have no conflict of interest with any of the authors of the paper being submitted.
Thank you in advance for considering our article for publication in “The North American Journal of Cardiology”.
Sincerely yours,
